But that is if you think it is necessary to fit in all the time. Stay hidden. Not have a voice or an opinion. Our designs can force you to do all this and more. Some people may find that unnecessary. But the ones who buy a Simitri bag never do.
They get it for a single reason.
They want to own it.
If your bag is an extension of you, then why shouldn’t it shine, shimmer or glow. Why shouldn’t it make heads turn and stop people in their tracks. Why should it blend in, when it’s meant to stand out. The bag you carry, why shouldn’t it carry you?
At Simitri, we get you. The creative, fantastic, absurd, ridiculous, eccentric you who loves themself no matter what anyone says. Who isn’t afraid of their emotions. Expressions. Or dreams. Maybe not everywhere, maybe not all the time, but we know you exist. And we exist because of you.
Coming from a milieu of mixed cultures, our skilled artisans are brought up in families that keep alive traditional arts and techniques, which make their way into our modern designs. That is why in a Simitri accessory, kutch weaves meet metallic tassels, jacquard meets zardozi and ikat meets briefcases. A potpourri of styles, a medley of colors and a melange of textures - born in a country that's all this and more, Simitri is inspired by it all. In the bustling Indian markets and lanes, where a play of lights makes the beads, sequins and crystals flicker and glimmer, we find the inherent pulse of that historic creative chaos, and capture it in each new Simitri design.
Our small business makes accessories that go big on style and indulgence because we spend our time and effort coming up with the most original designs, sourcing good quality material and thoughtfully handcrafting it into each bag. We are not blinded by sales targets, but are deeply focused on getting the most creative designs out there. It's simply awesome to be part of the Small Business Community around the world that values quality over quantity. Your continued support will let this growing eco-system of heritage artisans, skilled craftsmen and designers pursue their passion and reinvigorate traditional arts, making this world more equal, colorful and exciting.
We do not hurt any animals in the making of our bags. Our raw materials and labor are ethically sourced at fair price. However, there are certain things we have always been unkind to - we do not welcome monotony, while boredom and repetition are regularly destroyed with each new Simitri creation. We sincerely hope you're okay with us beating back all the mediocrity.
After graduating from the prestigious National Institute of Fashion Technology in India and completing a program at the Nuova Accademia Di Belle Arti in Milan, Gayatri began designing her signature Indian-inspired handbags from her parents’ garage in New Delhi, 2009. On launching, her avant-garde collections were featured in leading fashion magazines. Half a decade later, her audacious bags were regulars on Indian runways and fashion weeks. After she moved to Philadelphia, she was joined by her sister-in-law, Simran, who convinced her to expand her business in the United States. Together, they launched SIMITRI from Simran’s kitchen table, and over the last five years their bags have shimmered at the New York Fashion Week, were carried by the U.S. Women’s Soccer Team and also featured in O magazine. With each collection they are challenging norms and design principles, giving us accessories that are just like them, bright, bold and fearless.
